Nineteen-year-old R&B artist Princeton joined YMR in the summer of 2008, but has been drawn to and affected by music since his infancy.
The artist cites Beyonce, Prince, Michael Jackson, Santigold, and M.I.A. as a small selection of his specific musical influences. Princeton credits their works amongst a host of others that have given him the great confidence he has today to express himself freely through music. As a young openly gay, African American performer, Princeton is on a mission to create bigger and better opportunities for himself professionally. This stance has created some challenging obstacles for him both personally and professionally, but the artist seems to be well on his way.
Princeton’s talent has earned him various notable opportunities in his career thus far. At Grammy Career Day 2009, Princeton attended a songwriting and vocalist training workshop with Grammy Award nominees Narada Michael Walden and Ledesi. Upon the close of the workshop, Narada and Ledisi selected Princeton to perform a song at the Grammy Career Day showcase in front of more than 1,500 attendees. Princeton has also been featured in a full-page spread in the Pride issue of the Advocate Magazine (2008), a well-known, nationally-distributed publication for the LGBTQ community.
Princeton’s skills also led him to be one of five YMR youth selected to participate in the Musical Mentoring Project, an 8-week intensive led by Grammy Musical Directors Larry Batiste and Claytoven Richardson. It was during this time that the original song “My Radio” was produced, making it his strongest work to date. Princeton choreographed a medley of 7 songs, including this track, and performed with a troupe of four dancers at the sold-out Pure Delite showcase in May 2009 held at the 19th Street Theater, housed within the Fox Theater.
Princeton is currently working on his solo debut, and totally committed to continuing to develop his craft. Beyond singing, the artist is also a songwriter, dancer, choreographer, designer, actor, and entrepreneur. We expect great things to come of this performer.
